Pearl’s is the closest good breakfast to the house, about 1.4 miles away and tucked in beside the Original Mast General Store in the middle of Valle Crucis. It’s a small café and market, women-owned and well loved by locals, serving coffee and pastries, soups, salads and sandwiches.
The Tiny Market side is handy for stocking up. It carries beer and wine, grab-and-go picnic food and North Carolina-made products, so you can grab lunch for a day on the river or pick up something for the porch that evening. Pair it with a wander round the Mast Store next door, or take your sandwiches to Valle Crucis Community Park just down the road.
Good to know: Pearl’s is open daily from 9am to 3pm for breakfast and lunch only, so plan dinner elsewhere. You can order ahead online, which is worth doing on busy summer and fall weekends, when the village fills up with leaf-peepers and river-goers.
