Days in the High Country are for the Parkway, the slopes and the river. But ask guests what they remember most about Valle View Retreat and the answer is usually the evenings: everyone back at the house, the light fading over Valle Crucis, and nowhere else they need to be.
Sunset from the front porch
The front porch faces long-range mountain views, with six rocking chairs lined up for watching the sun go down. It’s the natural gathering spot before dinner, coffee or wine in hand.
Dinner on the back porch
The back porch seats 16 or more for dinner under string lights. On warm nights, it’s the best dining room in the house. Cook a big meal in the chef’s kitchen, or book a private chef through our partner yhangry and let someone else handle the cooking and the dishes.
Around the fire pit
Once it’s dark, head down to the wood-burning fire pit, ringed by 12 Adirondack chairs. On a clear night in the valley, the stars come out properly. It’s the place for s’mores, long conversations and the stories everyone retells for years.
The 8-person hot tub
The hot tub seats eight and looks out over the valley. After a day of skiing or hiking, there’s nothing better, and it’s just as good on a cold winter night as a cool summer one.
The game room
For anyone who’d rather stay inside, the renovated game room has an 8-foot pool table, regulation foosball, skee-ball, a 9-foot shuffleboard and a Sonos soundbar. It’s where the tournaments start and the rivalries never quite end.
Movie night
Two living rooms mean two places to settle in. Both have gas fireplaces and Roku Smart TVs, and one has surround sound. Put a film on for the kids in one while the grown-ups stay up talking in the other.
Quiet nights, too
Valle View Retreat is a private home in a quiet valley, booked by one group at a time. Parties and events aren’t allowed, which keeps the neighborhood peaceful and the evenings relaxed.
